Two Mirrors Added ================= PlanetMirror from Australia and Georgia Tech from USA have graciously mirrored freely available files from Lineox. See our new download page for details. This means that we have more bandwidth for our paying customers and free stuff is also has faster access from our mirrors. We will update apt-get and yum configuration files later to reflect these changes. Free Download Policy Changes ============================ The current Free Download Policy is: Component Delay Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0 updates 30 days Always Current 3.x CD images with latest Quarterly Update 30 days Lineox Enterprise Linux 2.1 updates 60 days Always Current CD 2.1.x images with latest Quarterly Update 60 days What's next? ============ Thanks to our mirrors, we plan to make more installation options available. One is simple. Download the boot.iso file, burn it to CD-RW or mini sized CD-R(W), boot the installation and do either http or ftp based installation providing one of our mirrors as installation source. This of course requires reliable and preferably fast Internet connection, but as an advantage, You need to download only the program packages You actually want. The other is more suitable for home users with slow and not so reliable Internet connections. We will create a one CD installation version which includes only the program packages needed to start X Window and synaptic. Additional packages can be then installed with synaptic. This ensures that if Internet connection breaks, there is still a usable system on which to try install more packages later. We will open soon a new site, developer.lineox.org, which will offer more nuts and bolts view of Lineox development and have a more relaxed style. Building it will however take some time. The PC on which it will run, will be physically and network connectivity wise separate from our other servers, so it will also provide a backup system to our main site. With multiple, separate sites with web pages and multiple download servers we can provide a redundant system, which ensures that Lineox is always available on the net.
