Lineox Enterprise Linux Grows with Application Server, Adds a New Twist to Distribution 10. Aug. 2004 Lineox Application Server for Lineox Enterprise Linux is distributed on a novel new way. Instead of making the Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux larger, the Lineox Application Server can be installed after installation as an update. The advantage of this is that users have to learn only one tool, the one used for updates. Because Lineox Application Server and simultaneously released Developer Suite update contain 244 packages, they are grouped to 11 virtual packages, which will then pull the packages they require. We don't know any previous use of virtual, empty rpm packages to ease the selection of installable packages, but the technique has been well documented and in common knowledge. Because the new and updated packages will transferred over the Internet only if the user wants them to be installed, both users and Lineox save bandwidth. Lineox Application Server is tested on all major commercial JVMs, including Sun SDK, BEA WebLogic JRockit and IBM JDK and will also be tested with leading DBMS platforms, including the Oracle Database, IBM DB2 and Sybase. Protecting existing Java investments while deploying open source is a key benefit to customers. Lineox Application Server includes most commonly used features/functionality found in commercial J2EE application servers, including: Enterprise Application Server (JOnAS), EJBs Web Application Server (Tomcat), JSPs and Servlets Web Services, through AXIS from Apache JakartaServer Management, using JMX (JonAS/Tomcat) Scalability features, pooling, caching and storage optimization Messaging and transaction support, clustering for failover and load balancing Support. Lineox Application Server will be supported like the Cluster and the Developer Suite with updates, which are all included in the update support service for Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0 starting at 15 Euros per year for single systems.
